About this app

Signal is a messaging app with privacy at its core. It is free and easy to use, with strong end-to-end encryption that keeps your communication completely private.

• Send texts, voice messages, photos, videos, stickers, GIFs, and files for free. Signal uses your phone’s data connection, so you avoid SMS and MMS fees.

• Call your friends with crystal-clear encrypted voice and video calls. Group calls supported for up to 50 people.

• Stay connected with group chats up to 1,000 people. Control who can post and manage group members with admin permission settings.

• Share image, text, and video Stories that disappear after 24 hours. Privacy settings keep you in charge of exactly who can see each Story.

• Signal is built for your privacy. We know nothing about you or who you’re talking to. Our open source Signal Protocol means that we can’t read your messages or listen to your calls. Neither can anyone else. No back doors, no data collection, no compromises.

• Signal is independent and not for profit; a different kind of tech from a different kind of organization. As a 501c3 nonprofit we are supported by your donations, not by advertisers or investors.

Secure text that doesn't require an email address to sign up for a login. That's a win! The security comes first with this app, which means it is harder to do some simple things like switching phones, and impossible to do others, like using the service on multiple devices. This app is mobile first. Wish there was a mobile version of the desktop app, so multiple devices could work at the same time.

signal was better before the app went to signal to signal only and stopped processing messages from unencrypted text messaging apps. Now, I'm obligated to use multiple apps instead of one that can do everything. I understand that it requires more programming and management, but it was better for the end user. There should also be a cleaner way to export text message threads directly to a spreadsheet. it would allow me to free up a lot of space on my phone, but still retain the conversations.

As a messenger app, it is great. However restoring from a backup is s disaster. I tried tu restore a backup with a verified correct passphrase, but Signal says the password is incorrect, which it isn't. I verified it. But this seems to be an issue if you look on the internet for 2 years already, but the devs at signal don't seem to prioritize this issue.

What's new

★ We added a convenient shortcut to quickly lower your hand after you start speaking during a Signal group call. It's hands down our favorite feature in this release.
